class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>  An <strong>albufera (<\/strong> Arabic origin, \u0627\u0644\u0628\u062d\u064a\u0631\u0629 (al-bu\u1e25ayra), &#8216;the lake&#8217;) or albufera is an <strong>accumulation of salt water, separated from the sea by a tongue or sandy area, but in communication with the sea<\/strong> by one or more points <strong>.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Albuferas have warmer water than the sea<\/strong>, due to the slight stagnation or slow exchange of water between the sea and the albufera.<br \/>\nThe albuferas are usually areas with a lot of vegetation and fauna.<br \/>\n<strong>Albuferas are a stopover point for migratory birds<\/strong>.     <\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"History_of_Albufera_des_Grau\"><\/span>History of Albufera des Grau<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>  In 1995 the Albufera des Grau was declared a Natural Park.<br \/>\nThe area of the Albufera was tried to be urbanized during the 70&#8217;s, but the urban development projects were prevented from being finalized.<br \/>\nIn <strong>2003 the boundary of the Natural Park was extended and 5 nature reserves were declared<\/strong>: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Wetlands<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Temporary ponds<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Dune systems<\/strong>: the beach of Es Grau<\/li>\n<li><strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spermatophyta#:~:text=Las%20espermatofitas%20o%20faner%C3%B3gamas%20(Spermatophyta,plantas%20vasculares%20que%20producen%20semillas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Seagrass<\/a> meadows: <\/strong>On beaches and in coves<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coastal islets<\/strong>: Illa d&#8217;en Colom<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>  Some of the most representative species of the albufera&#8217;s fauna are the <strong>fish eagle<\/strong> and the <strong>Balearic lizard<\/strong>. <strong>The lagoon<\/strong> of the albufera des Grau is 3 meters deep and is inhabited by aquatic plants (such as <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ruppia_cirrhosa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ruppia cirrhosa<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Potamogeton_pectinatus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Potamogeton pectinatus<\/a>).<br \/>\nThanks to the presence of these aquatic plants and some schools of fish, the lagoon is a resting place for <strong>waterfowl<\/strong>, among others:   <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Common Coot (<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fulica_atra\" <strong>do one of its 3 itineraries on foot<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe 3 routes are short and easy, and can be done all year round.<br \/>\nIn addition to the 3 official itineraries of the Albufera des Grau, it is also possible to walk or cycle through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/es-grau-far-favaritx-bike-btt-stage-2-cami-de-cavalls\/\"><strong>the Section 2 of the Cam\u00ed de Cavalls<\/strong><\/a> (Gr-223).    <\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Itinerary_1_%E2%80%93_Sa_Gola_22_Km_%E2%80%93_40min\"><\/span>Itinerary 1 &#8211; Sa Gola (2.2 Km &#8211; 40min)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>  Sa Gola can be done <strong>on foot (40min) and by bike (10min)<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThis itinerary starts at the parking lot of the soccer field of Es Grau.<br \/>\nThe whole route is very flat.<br \/>\nThe itinerary runs along the channel of Sa Gola and the dune area of the beach of Es Grau. <strong>In summer it is pleasant<\/strong> because of the pine trees and because it is next to the sea.     <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/balearsnatura.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Sa-Gola_CAST_Web_llarg.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow the lagoon and has <strong>many points where it is worth stopping to observe the landscape<\/strong>.   <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a for viewing waterfowl, <\/strong>especially <strong>in winter<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe trail skirts the southwestern shore of the lagoon of the Albufera and <strong>has many viewpoints and bird href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/playa-de-es-grau\/\">Es Grau<\/a> and the fantastic <a title=\"Favaritx Lighthouse\" href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/favaritx-lighthouse\/\">Far de Fav\u00e0ritx.<\/a><\/strong> This excursion can be done <strong>either by <em>mountain bike<\/em> or on foot<\/strong>. In case you do it by mountain bike, keep in mind that it is a route with some complicated sections, some of them passing through the beach, where it is quite likely that you will have to get off the
