Posidonia oceanica meadow in Son Vell –<\/figcaption><\/figure>MenorcaPosidonia oceanica<\/strong> is a very common marine plant in Menorca<\/strong>.
\nAlthough many call it seaweed, it is a plant.
\nPosidonia has its natural habitat between 0 and 40 meters deep, and with the change of leaves that it makes every year, it takes to the beaches the berms (posidonia leaves).
\nThe berms of posidonia<\/strong> are dark brown or even black, and are deposited in the areas where the waves break on the shore of the beaches<\/strong>.
\nThanks to them, the beaches maintain their sand, since the posidonia formations cushion the force of the waves on the sand of the shore<\/strong>, especially during storms.
\nIn addition to the berms accumulated on the shore of the beaches, the wind often moves part of the posidonia towards the dune formations behind the bathing areas.
\nThe accumulation of posidonia in the dunes is good for the ecosystem, as it provides organic matter and stabilizes the sand. <\/p>\n
