href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/biosphere-reserve\/\">Menorca Biosphere Reserve<\/a> has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/biosphere-reserve\/\">extended to the Sea<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Also in 2019, the Illa del Aire Marine Reserve has been created.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"History_of_the_Northern_Marine_Reserve_of_Menorca\"><\/span>History of the Northern Marine Reserve of Menorca<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>  The marine reserve of Menorca was &#8220;created&#8221; on <a title=\"BOIB 81 1999\" href=\"https:\/\/www.caib.es\/eboibfront\/es\/1999\/5425\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">June 24, 1999<\/a> from the <a title=\"REserva Marina Menorca according to BOIB 81\" href=\"https:\/\/www.caib.es\/eboibfront\/pdf\/VisPdf?action=VisHistoric&amp;p_any=1999&amp;p_numero=081&amp;p_finpag=9262&amp;p_inipag=9261&amp;idDocument=127723&amp;lang=es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BOIB number 81 (<\/a> yes, the day of<a title=\"Feasts of Sant Joan in Ciutadella\" href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/fiestas-de-sant-joan-en-ciutadella\/\"> Sant Joan<\/a>!). It is an area of the north coast of Menorca in which <strong>fishing is prohibited or highly regulated and controlled.<\/strong> Thanks to this, the marine fauna has developed over the years, creating a spectacular landscape for those who choose to snorkel. It is easy to see species such as <strong>moray eels<\/strong>, <strong>groupers<\/strong>, <strong>octopus<\/strong> and <strong>mullets<\/strong> in the north of Menorca. <strong>Trawling<\/strong> and fishing for endangered species <strong>is prohibited throughout the marine reserve<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe reserve covers an area of 5,119 marine hectares from the bay of Fornells (eastern boundary) to Cape Gros (western boundary).<br \/>\nAccording to <a title=\"Data marine reserve of menorca\" href=\"https:\/\/www.caib.es\/sacmicrofront\/contenido.do?mkey=M69&amp;lang=ES&amp;cont=867\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">official data<\/a>, there are 628 <a title=\"Bentos\" href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bentos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">benthic<\/a> species in the reserve, which covers 5,119 marine hectares.<br \/>\nThe Reserve is divided into 3 zones.     <\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Zone_A_of_the_Marine_Reserve\"><\/span><strong>Zone A of the Marine Reserve<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>  It contains the space between Pla de Mar and Cala Barril.<br \/>\nIt is the maximum protection integral reserve zone where <strong>any type of underwater fishing and the extraction of marine flora and fauna<\/strong> is <strong>prohibited<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe 4 coordinates that delimit the zone are the following:    <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The intersection of the coastline with the meridian 04\u00ba 01&#8242; 42 &#8220;E (Cala Barril).<\/li>\n<li>40\u00ba 04&#8242; 31&#8243; N 04\u00ba 01&#8242; 42&#8243; E<\/li>\n<li>40\u00ba 04&#8242; 18&#8243; N 03\u00ba 58&#8242; 06&#8243; E<\/li>\n<li>The intersection of the coastline with the meridian 03\u00ba 58&#8242; 06 &#8220;E (El Pla de Mar).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Zone_B_of_the_Marine_Reserve\"><\/span><strong>Zone B of the Marine Reserve<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>  It contains the area from the southeast of the Bay of Fornells to the tip of Ses Salines.<br \/>\n <strong>Spearfishing is forbidden except in cases where the General Directorate of Fisheries authorizes it<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe 3 coordinates that delimit the zone are the following:    <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The intersection of the coastline with the parallel 40\u00ba 04&#8242;
