id=\"caption-attachment-25467\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Port of SanitjaThe<\/figcaption><\/figure><strong>port of Sanitja<\/strong> or Sanisera is a natural harbor theoretically located next to the ancient Roman city of Sanisera.<br \/>\nThe port is located on the Cavalleria cape and has a length of 800 meters that together with its low seabed make it a <strong>very good shelter for boats when the dreaded Tramontana wind blows<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe port itself is very little exploited and only a few wooden boats can be seen in it during the tourist season.    <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The entrance to the port was formerly defended by the<strong> Sanitja Tower<\/strong>, an <strong>English defense tower built in 1860<\/strong> with stone and mortar <strong>.<\/strong> <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>  The tower cannot be visited on the inside as it has deteriorated over time and is partially collapsed.  <\/p>\n<div id=\"ez-toc-container\" class=\"ez-toc-v2_0_86 of the scientific writer <a title=\"pliny the elder\" href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plinio_el_Viejo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pliny the Elder<\/a>.<br \/>\nDespite this there is still controversy about the actual location of the city of Sanisera.<br \/>\nOne of the peculiarities of the city of Sanitja is the multitude of different names that appear throughout history to describe it, such as Seneua, Seneli, Sa Nitja, Senige, Senitja, Seniglles or Senigta.<br \/>\nAs if this confusion of place names were not enough, its location on maps throughout history has also been changing.     <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>As of today <a title=\"Sanisera\" href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sanisera\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">there is still no consensus<\/a> on the location of the ancient city of Sanisera<\/strong>, so if you want to be informed about it the best thing to do is to look at specialized archaeological sources and Wikipedia from time to time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_get_to_Sanitja\"><\/span>How to get to Sanitja<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"By_Car_or_Bike\"><\/span>By Car or Bike<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>  To get to the port of Sanitja or Sanisera you will have to go by car or bike:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>From Ciutadella<\/strong> you have to go towards Ma\u00f3 by the main road and turn off at Es Mercadal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>From Ma\u00f3<\/strong> you also have to take the main road towards Ciutadella and turn off at Es Mercadal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Once in Es Mercadal<\/strong> you have to <strong>follow the indications to go to the beaches of the area<\/strong> or the indications to <strong>go to the lighthouse of Cavalleria.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" because you were passing by there on your way to the lighthouse of Cavalleria.<br \/>\nIf not, <strong>a visit to the lighthouse<\/strong> with one of the <a title=\"Cavalleria Lighthouse\" href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/lighthouse-of-cavalleria\/\">most spectacular sunsets in Menorca<\/a> is <strong>a must<\/strong>.<br \/>\nOnce you have strolled through the harbor and contemplated the wooden docks and small boats, always in sight of the distant defense tower, you can take the opportunity to visit <a title=\"Cavalleria Beach\" href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/playa-de-cavalleria\/\">Cala Cavalleria<\/a> or <a title=\"Cala Mica\" href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/cala-mica-beach\/\">Cala Mica<\/a> <a title=\"Cavalleria Beach\" href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/playa-de-cavalleria\/\">.<\/a>    <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are looking for <strong>a smaller and not so comfortable beach you can try <a title=\"Cala Viola de Ponent\" href=\"https:\/\/www.menorcadiferente.com\/en\/cala-viola-de-ponent-beach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cala Viola<\/a><\/strong>, right between the port and the lighthouse.<\/li>\n<li>And if you still feel like more activities you can take the opportunity to visit one of the <a title=\"Markets and Fairs in Menorca\"
