Biosphere Reserve

In October 1993, the Man and the Biosphere (MaB) Coordination Committee declared Menorca a Biosphere Reserve.
The MaB project was initiated in 1970 by UNESCO with the objective of internationally recognizing geographic areas representative of the Earth’s different habitats.
Biosphere reserves are selected for their scientific interest based on a series of criteria directly related to what is currently known as sustainable development.

Naveta des Tudons

The burial navetas of Menorca are one of the most characteristic elements of the prehistory of the island. The navetas are constructions of stones embedded between them without any cement (cyclopean constructions). Menorca’s most famous naveta is the Naveta des Tudons. The Naveta des Tudons is the oldest fully preserved building in Europe, and its construction dates to around 1000 BC. It is a collective burial monument, inside which were found the bodies of more than 100 individuals in addition to objects of bronze and bone.
