It is clear that most children love the beach, sand castles, water … but, besides having fantastic coves to go with children, Menorca offers many other plans to enjoy with the family.
You can visit lighthouses, climb up to all kinds of viewpoints, make excursions by the sea…
Here we tell you about the activities with children in Menorca that we try never to miss with our family.

1. Visit the Lighthouses
Lighthouses are part of the spectacular landscape of Menorca.
There are several on the island and it is worth visiting them and watching a sunset on one of them.
The children will enjoy the excursion to reach them, see them up close and learn about their history.
- Very important: if you are going to see a sunset wear a sweater or windbreaker.
At night and near the sea, it is always cold and windy.
Cavalleria Lighthouse

The Cavalleria Lighthouse is a lighthouse on top of spectacular cliffs from which you can always enjoy the sunsets.
Be careful with children because the terrain is very rocky, with many sharp rocks in some areas.
Logically you have to avoid that children get close to the cliffs, as they are more than 50 meters high.
- You arrive by a narrow road and park very close in the parking lot.
- The sunsets from there are beautiful in the summer months.
- Tip: I would try to combine the visit to Cavalleria with a visit to one of these beaches(Cavalleria, Cala Viola, Cala Pregonda).
At the Faro there is a bar open during the summer season 🙂
Punta Nati Lighthouse

The Punta Nati lighthouse is not far behind in the competition with the Cavalleria lighthouse in terms of sunsets.
Although it is true that it does not have the height of its cliffs nor the spectacular scenery, it is much more accessible from Ciutadella.
- Children will enjoy the walk to the lighthouse and climbing on the old military buildings around it.
- Tip: Check the sunset time and try to arrive at the parking lot 30 minutes before.
You have 10 to 15 minutes walk from the parking lot to the lighthouse.

Artrutx Lighthouse

The lighthouse of Artrutx is in the south of the island, only 8 kilometers from Ciutadella.
Although its white and blue stripes are very photogenic, it does not have as much charm as the Cavalleria or Punta Nati lighthouses.
- This lighthouse is very easy to access. You can park right next to it (you can go by bus) and it has a restaurant underneath with a terrace and privileged views.
- It is perfect for an aperitif in a unique setting while the children play outdoors.
- If you don’t want to find the terrace too crowded, children’s hours are the best.
Faváritx Lighthouse

The Favàritx Lighthouse is one of the best of the island for me.
In a spectacular setting and very different from the rest, more rugged, surrounded by black rocks where the waves break with force.
- A good natural show for the whole family
- You can combine the visit with an excursion to Cala Presili, Cala Tortuga, or S’Escala if you don’t want to walk any further.
- Important: The access to Favàritx from June to September is closed to private vehicles since 2018. Check the restrictions on access to Favàritx before you go.
2. Meet the Animals of the Island in the Lloc de Menorca
Lloc de Menorca is a not very big but very interesting zoo that will excite children.
It is located on the Carretera General Me-1 Km 7,8 (Alaior).
When I didn’t have children I remember walking past it and thinking that who would visit a zoo in Menorca.
But a couple of years ago we met him and we always repeat.
A very well kept place where you can enjoy mainly native fauna and flora and some from all over the world.
What I liked the most is that children can interact a lot.
Go inside to see and touch the goats, meet the Minorcan cows, see the macaques, meet the fish of the island, walk through a forest of lemurs or touch reptiles and snakes.

3. Climb Monte Toro
The highest point of Menorca is Monte Toro.
On a clear day you will be able to see the whole island and children will love to discover the places they have been to from a bird’s eye view.
4. Participate in the Fiestas Populares
One of the main charms of Menorca are its popular festivals.
The best known is Sant Joan in Ciutadella, at the end of June, but throughout the summer almost every week you can find celebrations in one town or another.
Very funny popular festivities, that the Menorcans live very much and it is interesting to share their traditions and the jaleos with the horses.
5. Spend a Morning at the Water Parks
If you have enough days to visit the island, you can afford a morning at the water park.
The kids love it and it’s a way to break away from the daily beach and get them to follow the route the next day with more enthusiasm.
Aqua Center
The Aqua Center is a water park located in the Los Delfines urbanization, a 10-minute drive from Ciutadella.
- It is small but has everything.
Both young children and teenagers will have a good time. It has a restaurant. - The visit can be combined with diving in Cala’n Bruc, beach in Algaiarens or snorkeling in Cala Morell.

AquaRock
AquaRock is in Cala’n Bosch.
It is not the biggest water park on the island but enough to entertain you for a while.
Longer and shorter slides and a big pool.
It also has a go-kart circuit.
Splash sur Menorca
Splash Sur is a water park in Sant Lluís with giant slides, adventure river, slow river, kamikaze…
for all ages and tastes.
- With a children’s area for the little ones and a jacuzzi for parents.
- The visit can be combined with a walk around Binibèquer or a swim at the beach of Punta Prima, in front of the lighthouse of the Isla del Aire.
6. Visit the Naveta des Tudons
Anyone with an interest in the island’s past should visit this building, which is in a very good state of preservation.
- Access to the interior of the Naveta des Tudons is prohibited for security reasons, but it is still possible to visit the building and its surroundings.
- The price of the visit is only 2 Euros per person, but on Sundays you can visit without paying.

7. Enjoy a sunset
Menorca is a privileged place to see a sunset at sea.
Children are thrilled by the moment and live it with great intensity.
In summer, the lighthouse of Punta Nati is one of the places chosen by many to witness this spectacle of nature.
- Don’t forget a sweater and enjoy this wonderful moment.

8. Snorkel with your family
It is very easy to see fish on all the beaches and, if you have chosen your destination according to the wind, the waters are generally calm.
For small children who do not know how to swim or do not dare to use a snorkel, you can use goggles that close well. They can put their head under the water and explore and pull it out again.
For the older and more experienced swimmers, a trip to each beach will be a great experience.
Lots of Mediterranean fish and occasionally octopus, moray eels or rays.
- Tip: If you can get a Menorcan fish book from the library, they will certainly enjoy reviewing the ones they have seen.
9. Take a boat trip to the least accessible beaches.

- From Ciutadella – Especially if you go in high season or your children are too young for long excursions, a good option to see the most popular coves is to take a boat trip (50€/person – Free Cancellation).
It leaves in the morning from Ciutadella and heads towards Turqueta, Macarella, Macarelleta, Cala Galdana and Son Saura.
On board you can eat a good paella and enjoy a glass of gin and lemonade. - From Fornells – Full day sailing trips (110€/person) to discover beaches and enjoy the sea.
Children under 12 years pay less (60/person). - From Punta Prima – Faralmar is in the area of Binibeca and Punta Prima and offers excursions to nearby caves and beaches and also to l’Illa de l’Aire, one of the most famous snorkeling spots in Menorca.
10. Take a Kayak Excursion
Throughout the island there are companies that are dedicated to the rental of kayaks to explore the coast.
It is possible to rent kayaks independently, or hire the services of a monitor to accompany you on the adventure.
In almost all tourist areas you can rent kayaks.
The two most popular areas are the bay of Fornells and Cala Galdana, since you can arrive with the car and get into the kayak right there.
There are also companies that have an office in Ciutadella or Maó and leave from the most convenient point of the island depending on the wind or the client’s preferences.
- I recommend the Fornells Bay Kayak Excursion (40€ – Free Cancellation) if you just want to practice some outdoor sports, do some snorkeling and see some deserted mini-beach.
