mountain of Monte Toro is the highest point of the whole island of Menorca, and that is only 358 meters (and according to some measurements it is still less the height).
Some say that the name of the mountain comes from the legend according to which in the mountain there was a bull that prevented anyone from approaching the top.
The reality is that the name comes from the Roman root “Tor”. From the Toro it is possible to see almost all of Menorca and even Mallorca when the day is clear.
At the top is the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Monte Toro, which was built over a Gothic church around 1670.
You can also see the television signal repeaters, which spoil the beautiful scenery from the top.

How to get to Monte Toro

You can reach Monte Toro by bike (30 minutes from Es Mercadal), on foot (1 hour from Es Mercadal) or by car (5 minutes from Es Mercadal).
Whatever your transport is, you have to go towards Es Mercadal by the main road of Menorca, and once you enter the village you just have to follow the signs to Monte Toro.
It is very difficult to get lost, especially because it is the highest mountain in Menorca, you will see quickly if you are moving away.
