Cyclotourism – Bike Tours in Menorca
Última actualización: 20/08/2024
Menorca is an island without big mountains, and for this reason there are many routes of cyclotourism with slopes suitable for all the public.
Thanks to the improvement of the signposting for cyclists and the fact that the island is quite flat, tourists who want to go cycling around Menorca have many options.
Whether you want to go on a a Mountain Bike tour along the Camí de Cavalls or if you want to cycle along inland roads and reach the beaches, you have options at your fingertips. But forget about riding a road bike on the roads of Menorca, punctures are guaranteed. If you are not in good shape, or just want to do a bike ride outdoors without suffering too much, I recommend you to rent an electric bike: you will be able to do longer routes, enjoy the landscapes and beaches and get much less tired.

The 6 Main Routes
- Ciutadella > Ferreries: 16.5 km of route planned for 2 hours. The first half is easy but in the end there are quite complicated stretches.
- Ferreries > Es Mercadal: 15.5 km of route planned for 1h 35 minutes. The difficulty is medium throughout the tour.
- Es Mercadal > Alaior: 7.7 km of route planned for 45 minutes. The difficulty is medium throughout the tour.
- Alaior > Maò: 12 km of route planned for 1h 15 minutes. The whole route is very easy.
- Maó > Es Castell: 8 km of route planned for 45 minutes. The whole route is very easy.
- Es Castell > Sant Lluís: 6 km of route planned for 30 minutes. The whole route is very easy.
Alternative Cycling Routes
- Ciutadella > Cala En Blanes: 5 km of route planned for 20 minutes. My favorite route for short walks and with a two-way bike lane separated from traffic on the Sa Farola road. Ideal for families and full of runners early and late in the day who take advantage of the magnificent coastal promenade overlooking Mallorca. By the way, you can get to Cala en Brut 500 meters from Cala en Blanes…
- Ciutadella > Punta Nati: 4km of route planned for 20 minutes. Another easy but longer route. Do you want to go by bike to see a spectacular sunset in Punta Nati Lighthouse? This is your route without a doubt.
- Ciutadella > Cala Blanca: About 5 km of route planned for 20 minutes. Short and easy tour for a day in which you settle with a beach like Cala Blanca. The route goes along a main road, I hope you like the roundabouts.
- Maó > Sa Mesquida: About 7km of route planned for 30 minutes. I don’t like this route because you have to be very careful, as the road is quite dangerous because of the car traffic.
Circular Routes from Ciutadella
- S1 – Artrutx Lighthouse Circular RouteGPS Track] 19.2Km of a very flat route designed to be done in 2 hours.
90% of the route can be done by bike without problems, but there are small sections where you will have to get off the bike.
Most of the route is on asphalt. - S2 – Circular Route Ciutadella > Artrutx > CiutadellaGPS Track] 32.9Km of a flat but long route designed to be done in 2 hours.
Almost 90% of the route can be done by bike, although you will have to get off the bike in small sections. - S3 – Circular Route Ciutadella > Turqueta > Macarella > CiutadellaGPS Track] 28.4Km of a route with quite a lot of accumulated elevation gain (400m) designed to be done in 2 hours.
Almost all the route is cyclable, with some small exceptions. - S4 – Circular Route Ciutadella > Galdana > Artrutx > Cala Blanca > CiutadellaGPS Track] 55.1Km of route with a lot of accumulated elevation gain (780m) designed to be done in 4h 10min.
The whole route is cyclable except for small exceptions.
Precautions when riding on Bicycle
The roads along the routes are public and motor vehicles are not prohibited. This means that it is HIGHLY recommended to wear a helmet on all excursions and always watch out for changes in gradient and curves without visibility. Always carry a puncture repair kit because punctures are frequent. I have punctured wheels several times and it is nice to be able to continue the trip. If you go carefully you don’t have to puncture, but it never hurts to take precautions.
