Cape Artrutx

The Artrutx Lighthouse is about 8 km south of Ciutadella, in the Cap d’Artrutx.
It is a lighthouse built in the mid-nineteenth century, and surrounded by an urbanization so it does not have as much charm as for example the lighthouses of Punta Nati or Cavalleria.
Its main characteristic is its white and blue stripes, which when seen from the sea are quite striking.
When it was first inaugurated, the lighting system worked with oil, and electricity did not reach this lighthouse until 1930.

How to get to Artrutx Lighthouse

To get there from Ciudadela, you only need to take the Cap d’Artrutx road until the end of it.
You will pass through the urbanizations of Cala Blanca, Santandria before arriving at the urbanization Tamarinda.
The site is quite indicated and it is difficult to get lost.
If you come from Maó (something not recommended) you simply have to head towards Ciutadella, and once there follow the same indications.

If we do not take into account its historical and cultural value, this lighthouse cannot be considered a very special place.
In any case, its peculiar decoration of alternating stripes makes it a target for drawings, photographs and paintings of all kinds.
Just to the right of the lighthouse, there are some cliffs from which Mallorca can be seen on days of visibility.

You can eat at the Lighthouse Restaurant overlooking the sea.

At the base of the lighthouse there is a restaurant where you can eat overlooking the sea.
Personally I am not convinced by the value for money of the place, but it is certainly a restaurant with a unique and privileged location.
The terrace is quite full in summer, although if the night is cold or windy do not forget to take a good sweater or coat, you are by the sea and the humidity is unforgiving.
