Varied Lodging Offer

If you plan to go to Menorca, most probably you will need an accommodation unless you want to sleep in a van or looking for places to camp.
There are mainly 5 options or types of accommodation: Hotels, Apartments, Alberques, Campings and Casas Rurales or individuals.
Depending on your needs, you can choose one or another option.
The cheapest option is usually to stay in a Camping or in a hostel, but there is much more choice in terms of apartments, hotels and rural houses.

Rent Apartments in Menorca

For me the best option in terms of quality and comfort is to rent an apartment.
Being in an apartment, we can prepare meals and make our schedule, at the same time that we enjoy a comfortable and cozy place where to rest.
In Menorca there is a great quantity of Apartments of all the types and characteristics.
The simplest are usually of 1 or 2 rooms with bathroom and kitchen, and the biggest ones can be of 3 floors, with terrace, swimming pool and other comforts (see photo above).

Rural Tourism: Relax and Proximity to the Beaches

Obviously, if the budget is higher, the option of renting a rural house or a house near an urban center is also an excellent alternative, although in general quite expensive.
Houses can be rented in different areas of Menorca.
This option is ideal for families or groups of friends with a high budget that want to enjoy both the island and a wide and comfortable place where to rest some days, to eat outdoors, to bathe in a private swimming pool, etc.
There are very modern and new houses and other much older ones that are remodeled farmhouses.
In general, most of the houses have a private swimming pool.

Traditional Hotels

The hotels offer a great comfort but do not allow cooking, so you have to look for restaurants where to have lunch and dinner constantly.
Besides this fact, to enjoy Menorca it is always advisable to be outdoors, especially in summer.
Although it is true that there are big hotels of great quality in Menorca, the truth is that they do not offer the same tranquility that the houses, reason why to equal prices, I would choose without a doubt a house.

Campings and Hostels

If you are looking for cheap accommodation while you enjoy the island, the best thing to do is to stay in a hostel or camping site.

• Hostels are quite difficult to find, and I particularly only have references of one located in Ciudadela (Sa Vinyeta), which can cost between 15 and 25€ per night.
• In terms of campsitesThey are also a cheap and affordable option for any pocket.
  There are campsites in Son Bou and Ferreries (S’atalaia), but if you know of any other do not hesitate to comment.

Rent A Camper Style Van

Since 2017 you have the option to rent a van in Menorca and make your accommodation move with you while you travel around the island.
It is a way to enjoy Menorca with another point of view, unhurried and on wheels.

Sleeping Outdoors Bivouacking

One last alternative, not mentioned before, is to sleep on the street or camp on the beach.
The last time I slept on a beach I was woken up by friendly policemen, so be aware that camping on the beaches is not allowed. There are kayak tours around Menorca and their participants camp on the beaches without any problem.
So if you want to sleep without paying, the best thing to do is to apply common sense and not draw attention to yourself.
Of course, do not go to sleep on the beaches of the urbanizations or you will be fined.
