Última actualización: 19/08/2024

Son Saura is actually composed of Banyuls beach (facing west) and Bellavista beach (facing east). Almost everyone refers to the two beaches together as Son Saura.
- The beach des Banyuls is the first one we find coming from the parking lot.
- Bellavista is the second.
The two beaches are separated by the lloses des governador.

Son Saura – Es Banyuls
The beach of Banyuls has a length of 200 meters and a width of 40 meters, although its dimensions are not stable and change over time.
It seems to me that every year there is less sand.
This beach is usually emptier because of the amount of posidonia that accumulates on its shore.
Son Saura – Bellavista
Bellavista beach is 310 meters long and 40 meters wide, although I also have the impression that the sand is progressively decreasing.
In both beaches there is much presence of Posidonia (a marine plant) all year round, something that sometimes bothers tourists.
There is another beach in the north of Menorca called Arenal de Son Saura, it is important not to confuse it with the beaches of Son Saura in Ciutadella.
How to get to Son Saura (South)
To get to Son Saura you have to go to Ciutadella and take the Camí de Sant Joan de Missa along the Ronda Sur of Ciutadella (see map).
Once on the Camí de Sant Joan de Missa, follow the signs “Son Saura” for about 12 km.
Everything is very well indicated, and there are luminous signs that indicate if there are parking spaces available just when you take the Camí de Sant Joan de Missa.
If you see the “Full” sign, it is best to look for another beach.

Free Parking in Son Saura
The parking at Son Saura is free, but in summer it is usually full and sometimes no more cars are allowed.
For this reason, if you want to go to Son Saura, the ideal is to get up very early, or go late in the afternoon.
I personally prefer to go early in the morning, to avoid encountering countless cars returning in the afternoon.
If you go by bike or motorcycle you won’t have much of a problem.
In case you have gone by car and they don’t let you pass, you can try to talk to the guard at the entrance and explain the stories you want to see if he will let you pass.
Once There
Once in Son Saura, you will see that before reaching Banyuls there are people in the shade, having picnics and chatting.
It is quite a typical scene in Son Saura, as many local and foreign families take shelter under the shade of the trees to spend the day at the beach.
If sun is your thing, you can choose between the first beach (Banyuls) and the second (Bellavista).
I don’t have a preference for either, since if I go to Son Saura sometime I always try to walk to Es Talaier.
Apart from sunbathing and swimming, there is not much activity you can do on these beaches.
If you snorkel you may see rays
In summer (July and August) it is a bit more complicated because it is quite crowded with boats, but I always see a stripe whenever I go there.
You can reach Es Talaier on foot.
You can also try to reach the Talaia d’Artrutx, a tower of about 60 meters high 350 meters from the coast.
