Cala Pilar

Pilar is a virgin beach in the north of Menorca.
It is a beach of difficult access located between Ferreries and Ciutadella. The sand of Cala Pilar, as in most of the north, is of golden and reddish color.
The water is transparent and crystalline as long as the wind conditions are favorable…
One of the particularities of this beach is its strong exposure to the Tramontana (north wind).

Before going to Cala Pilar make sure that there is no wind blowing from the north because in that case you will probably encounter uncomfortable waves for swimming and dirt on the shore.

How to get to Cala Pilar

Cala Pilar is a beach that is halfway between the two “big” towns of Menorca.

• If you leave from Ciutadella, you can get there by the main road to Maó, taking the Camí de Pilar detour at Km 34 of the road.
• If you leave from Maó you will have to take the main road to Ciutadella and take the same detour at Km 34 of the road.
  You have to be careful not to pass it, as it is in an overtaking lane.

Once in the parking lot, you have to walk for about 30 minutes along a path in the middle of the forest until you reach the beach.

• If you like the scenery, it will most likely take you 40 to 45 minutes as there are some very nice pictures along the way.

Once There…

The beach of Cala Pilar is quite small and does not have any type of service.
In addition, there are no large shaded areas so if you plan to stay a long time it is best to bring plenty of water and an umbrella.
If you are tired of the sun, very close to the beach there is a very small “cave” where you can rest for a while.

Finally, it is important to note that since Cala Pilar is located in a protected fishing area, it is a very good place for snorkeling or scuba diving.

As Cala Pilar is located in a virgin environment, the nearest hotels are in quite distant urbanizations such as Cala Morell or in Ferreries.
If you are looking for a beachfront hotel, you will not find it here.
