South beaches

Es Canutells

Es Canutells is a small beach in the south of Menorca located between Cales Coves and Binidalí that is almost always empty because its sand is very wet. The reason it is wet even in summer is that there is a small torrent that flows into the beach. Actually, Canutells is formed by two coves, the main cove of about 50 meters long by 30 meters wide, and another tiny cove of only 3×10 meters. When I have gone to Canutells I have stayed in the small cove, as I find it more pleasant.

Sa Farola Beach – Cala des Frares

The beach of Sa Farola, also known as Cala des Frares, is a tiny cove located very close to the port of Ciutadella.
It is a very very small beach with hardly any sand space for towels.
Most of the bathers use the concrete platforms built around the sea.
This beach is very well protected from the wind, so the water is always calm.
In addition, from 2021 the entry of boats to this area has been banned.
It has been a drastic measure to protect the posidonia meadows on the seabed in the area.
If you end up on this beach, it is most likely because you are walking along the magnificent Paseo de Sa Farola, which connects Ciutadella with Cala en Blanes along the coast.

This cove is located halfway along section 12 of the Camí de Cavalls, between Son xoriguer and Son Saura.
Son Vell is a very narrow cove and well protected from the swell, so it is common to see many boats anchored in this cove, especially on days when the wind blows from the north.
