The Route

The route from Cala Morell to Algaiarens is a little traveled route of the Camí de Cavalls, although it is possible to find Menorcans walking the path from the pier of Ses Fontanelles.
The route can be done both on foot (easy) and by mountain bike (difficult), although there are some parts of the road with many rocks that make it more complicated by bike, and the ascent and descent to Ses Fontanelles will make you get off the bike if you are not a machine.
The main point of interest of this section is precisely at the beginning of it: the Necropolis of Cala Morell.

Tour Facts

The good thing about this excursion is that depending on the time of year you can take a bus both in Cala Morell and in Algaiarens, so it is a good idea if you just want to do a small part of the Camí de Cavalls and return to some urbanization or go to the beach.
You can buy water and stop for lunch in the urbanization in Cala Morell, where there are restaurants, apartments, etc.

  • Distance: 4km

  • Difficulty on bike: difficult

The Landscape

The most beautiful thing about this section is the transition of vegetation as you leave the valley of Algaiarens (towards Cala Morell), as you can see how the height of the vegetation goes down as you approach what is known as the Dry Menorca.
From Ses Fontanelles onwards, the trees disappear and there are only bushes and low plants.
If you like plants and vegetation, in this section you can find abundant Camamil-la (Menorcan camomile) and also wild saffron.
