Turqueta is for many the most beautiful cove of the island, with permission of Cala Pregonda.
It is a small beach of blue waters with white sandy bottom surrounded by pine trees and divided into two parts by a low rock.
Due to its orientation, in summer it gets the shade a little earlier than the rest of the beaches, so it tends to empty early.

If you like to be on the beach even when the sun is not shining you will love Cala Turqueta, since at sunset there are only a few people and sailboats anchored in the bay.

Origin of the Name

There are 2 theories about the etymology of the name Turqueta:

  1. Some say the name comes from the Turquoise color of the water, reminiscent of the clearest, most crystalline turquoise.
  2. Others say that the name recalls that this beach was a place chosen by the Turkish Pirates to disembark in Menorca.

I do not know which of the two is the real origin of the name.

How to get to Cala Turqueta

To get to Cala Turqueta you have to take the Camí de Sant Joan de Missa from Ciudadela and follow the signs.
Once you arrive at the parking, you are only about 10 minutes away from a paradisiacal beach, which illustrates many postcards of the island.
Although Cala Turqueta is a virgin beach, in the parking lot you can find a small bar-chiringuito with toilets where they sell snacks and drinks.

Getting to Cala Turqueta by boat (54€)

You can you can arrive in a boat shared with several people to Turqueta.
The boat leaves from Ciutadella and passes by several virgin beaches in the south.
Going by shared boat has advantages and disadvantages (I have gone once and I had a great time):

  • You enjoy a day of sailing at a very affordable price, but you share the boat with many people.
  • You can see several beautiful beaches without walking, although as there are many people on the boat, when you arrive at the beach you will not be alone.
  • You can carry luggage, diving goggles and photo equipment without carrying it .
  • Some boats have a slide for “jumping” into the water 😉

Once There

If you go to Cala Turqueta, try not to go in the late afternoon, as it is a beach where the sun sets quite early.
On the other hand, if you try to go at noon you may find a full parking lot.
So if you like to spend many hours on the beach, it is best to go early in the morning (before 9am).
In case you go in the afternoon, the best thing to do is to settle down, facing the sea, as far to the left as possible, since you will have 30 minutes or 1 hour more sun than if you stay at the beginning of the beach.

Landing of Mini-Cruises in Turquette

One of the main disadvantages of Turqueta is that it allows mini-cruise ships to mini cruise ships that leave Ciutadella to unload a few tourists in a very short time.
These cruises usually arrive in the morning or at noon, and because of the amount of people arriving all at once, the beach becomes even more crowded.
Even with a lot of people it is a very nice beach, but you have to know that if you go from June to August the beach will be quite crowded.
You can get an idea of how the beach looks like in the pictures below.

Hotels near Cala En Turqueta

Staying near Cala en Turqueta is very difficult as it is a very isolated virgin beach.
The only option, and quite a good one, is to stay at the spectacular rural hotel of Morvedra Nou:

  • All the best beaches are in isolated areas.
If you want foot access to a beach from your hotel, I would recommend Santo Tomas area.
You can go to Santo Tomas beach, very crowded, or you can walk to other less crowded beaches like Binigaus, Escorxada, Fustam and Talis.
