Llatinaboats, License-Free Llaüt Rental in Menorca

Última actualización: 02/11/2026

If you’re traveling to Menorca with kids, friends, or as a couple, renting a boat and seeing Menorca from the sea is always an unforgettable experience. Especially during high season, when the island is at its busiest, it’s a joy to be able to reach Menorca’s most hidden coves and enjoy them from your boat.

In this article, we recommend a license-free boat rental company in Menorca and reveal some tiny coves, off the tourist trail, that you can reach if you have your own boat. A different activity to do with family or in a group.

From June to September, Llatinaboats offers you the chance to live this experience at your own pace, because they rent license-free boats in Menorca, which you can operate yourself without any qualification. Before setting off, they will give you basic instructions on how to handle the llaüt, where and how to anchor, and the basic rules of the sea. Suitable for everyone.

Discover Menorca’s Only Marine Reserve by Boat

From Fornells Bay, you can discover the north of Menorca (which includes the Marine Reserve) by boat and without needing a license. Llatinaboats has four different boats, all traditionally restored and replicas of boats that once sailed the island’s waters.

They can be rented for a full day (8 hours) or half a day (4 hours), a good option if you are in Menorca with children and want to start exploring sea routes and see how they take to it.

The Llaüt, a Traditional Fishing Boat

It must be said that there is no boat for sailing around Menorca with as much charm as the llaüt. A strong, resistant, wooden boat, often painted in very nautical colors. This traditional boat from the island’s coasts served as a fishing and cabotage vessel, being robust and a very good sailor.

The appearance of the internal combustion engine for small boats led to these more traditional vessels being somewhat forgotten. But in the early 80s, Menorcans began to value them again and use their lifelong fishing boats also as recreational vessels.

The Best Hidden Coves in Northern Menorca

During high season, Menorca’s coves are packed, even those reached after a good hike. That’s why it’s a good idea to rent a boat for a day and be able to anchor peacefully, discovering less popular, beautiful places that will become your private paradise.

With Llatinaboats’ llaüts, you can reach coves that don’t usually appear in typical tourist guides, known only by locals who know the area. Menorca coves accessible only by boat. They are experts and can advise you, but we’ll give you a sneak peek at some of them.

A small, quiet cove known only by a few locals and… the goats that go there to drink. Hence its name. Of course, they don’t drink saltwater. Not many people know this, but they scratch the sand with their hooves to drink the fresh water that flows underneath.

  • Cala de s’Arenalet – Fornells Bay

A slightly larger cove than Cabra Salada, also within Fornells Bay, in front of the village. Perfect for a picnic, laying out your towel, and enjoying a beach almost to yourself.

  • Cala en Tosqueta

Although there are often many boats in August, few people go down to the sand. A beautiful, quite large beach, perfect for some snorkeling. You’ll find it just outside Fornells Bay, heading towards the Favàritx lighthouse.

What to do in the Fornells area?

And since you’re spending the day in northern Menorca, there are plenty of activities and sights to see in the Fornells area. Take the opportunity to visit the village and try one of its famous calderetas. Many places cook them deliciously, but those at Es Cranc or, if you have a good budget, Sa Llagosta (c/Gabriel Gelabert, 12) are our favorites.

If you’re back around snack time, don’t miss the ensaimadas and typical sweets from one of the island’s oldest artisan bakeries. In Mercadal, you’ll find Cas Sucrer. Treat yourself on their terrace and enjoy this small but charming village.

And if you’re one to stay out late, since you’re in the north, don’t miss the lighthouse Cavalleria. A rugged, spectacular landscape with dizzying cliffs, from which you can see one of the best sunsets you’ll ever witness. You have my word.
