Cala Macarelleta
Última actualización: 20/08/2024

Its sand is fine and white, and the waters are turquoise blue.
It is a beach quite frequented by nudists.
Macarelleta is located in the same bay of Cala Macarella, but it is considerably smaller and has no restaurant.
In Macarelleta there used to be a system of remontant dunes that is currently in clear decline due to the large number of people camping on the beach overnight(source).

Check the access restrictions by vehicle before you go. You can only get to Cala Macarelleta from Macarella Cove.
To get to Macarella take the Camí de Sant Joan de Missa from Ciutadella and follow the signs on the road.
(When the access is open to traffic – November to May).
The journey from Ciutadella to Macarella can take you about 20-25 minutes by car, and just over 1 hour by bike.
It is the same road you have to take to go to Son Saura or Cala en Turqueta.
When arriving at the beach, there is a free parking from November to June.

Once in Macarelleta
Once in Macarella, you have to walk about 5-10 minutes to get to Cala Macarelleta.
For me it is a recommended walk, since Macarella has a restaurant and therefore it is more likely that there are more people.
In addition, during the walk you go up the cliff of the beach and you have very nice views from above. The path that leads to Macarelleta is located, if we are looking at the sea, to the right of the beach.
It is not excessively complicated but with small children it is a bit more difficult.
In Macarelleta there is no service or restaurant, so if you are going to spend the day don’t forget water and food!
Cala Macarelleta viewpoint
The path is not indicated and in some sections it is narrow and you can scratch your legs.
The viewpoint does not overlook Cala Macarelleta, but has views of Macarella and the sea.
Estrella Damm 2010 advertisement
Since 2010 when Estrella Damm made one of its famous ads on the island of Menorca, Cala Macarelleta is almost always full (until 2018).
I personally have stopped going in July and August to avoid the overcrowding, which has reached points where people no longer fit on the sand and occupy the dune spaces in regeneration in an uncivic and disrespectful way with the natural environment. In 2018, to avoid car collapses at the entrance to the beach, access by car and motorcycle to Macarella and Macarelleta was prohibited.
I have been told by some people who went in July and August that there were a little less people.
