Cala Mitjana
Última actualización: 19/08/2024
Cala Mitjana is another of the magnificent beaches in the south of Menorca.
Located very close to Cala Galdana, Mitjana allows us to access many of the less frequented beaches of the south, such as Cala Trebalúger, Cala Fustam, or Cala Escorxada.
One of the main characteristics of this beach is the large amount of sand it has, and how wide the bathing area is.
Thanks to this, even if there are a lot of people on the beach, it is always possible to find a place to put a towel, although sometimes it is quite far from the water.
You have to take into account that due to its orientation, 1 hour and a half before sunset the beach is covered by the shade of the pine trees that surround it.

How to get to Cala Mitjana
By Car
Both from Maó and from Ciutadella, you have to go to Cala Galdana, and before arriving take the detour to the left.
The cove is quite well indicated, and in the busiest days of the summer you can see cars parked on the sides of the road.
The parking of Cala Mitjana is free. The parking used to be about 100 meters from the beach, but since 2013 it is about 10 minutes walk there and 15 minutes walk back (downhill and uphill).
Even after the change of parking the beach is usually very crowded.
By Bike
Access to the beach by bike is exactly the same as by car.
Once There
Cala Mitjana has quite a few options for the visitor.
In addition to the front line sandy area, the cove has a lot of depth, so there are shaded picnic areas with benches and tables quite comfortable for a snack.
You can also try to visit Mitjaneta cove, a tiny cove with hardly any sand, just to the right of Mitjana.
It is nice but sometimes only 2 or 3 people can fit, depending on how much sand there is.
Jumps from the Cliffs
The more adventurous are in luck, because on the left side of the cove there is a cliff from where you can jump into the sea with little danger.
It is not as comfortable and there are not as many jumps as in Cala en Brut, but it is still a fun area.
The platform from where most people jump has a height of about 7 or 8 meters approximately.
Of course, before jumping it is important to make sure that there is no one in the water, calculate the momentum well and never jump holding on to another person to avoid accidents.
I have seen two people jumping at the same time and if one of them regrets at the last moment and brakes, the danger of falling over the cliff wall is very high (I have seen accidents of this type, fortunately without serious consequences).
Excursions in Cala Mitjana
Hikers and walkers will also enjoy Cala Mitjana, because from here you can go to Cala Trebalúger, Cala Fustam and Cala Escorxada, through the famous Camí de Cavalls.
I recommend trying to get to Escorxada to those who feel like it, although the road is very long!
Also, on the way to Trebalúger you can see a small bunker overlooking the bay of the cove.
I do not know the history and purpose of the construction, but from inside, if allowed entry, you can take good pictures.

Hotels near Cala Mitjana
Cala Mitjana is fortunate to have Galdana next door which distracts the attention of some tourists, but not all!
If you want to stay near Mitjana I recommend two very different options, rural tourism and tourism for the comfortable!
- Agroturisme Binisaid: rural hotel very close to Mitjana, so much that if you like walking you can go on foot (2.5km), but be careful with the road!
There are rooms but you can also rent the apartment with kitchen! - Hotel Sol Gavilanes: the flagship of Cala Galdana!
Hated by many and loved by many others, its presence on the beachfront does not go unnoticed.
Bring your camera to take pictures from your room overlooking the bay of Galdana!
