Galdana is the tourist beach par excellence of the south coast of Menorca.
In spite of that, it is a spectacular beach that shares with all the beaches of the south the white sand and the transparent waters.
The length of the beach is more than 400 meters, and as you can see in the pictures, it is a beach with a huge bathing area.
The natural outlet of the Algendar ravine on the beach has become over time a port for shallow draft boats, in what is known as the river of Cala Galdana.
If it were not for the amount of buildings and people in Galdana, this beach would be the best of all Menorca, but I am not enthusiastic about it because it is difficult to be quiet on any summer day.

How to get to Cala Galdana

By Car or Bike

From Ciutadella it is necessary to take the main road towards Maó and to take the detour before arriving at Ferreries.
From Maó you have to go to Ciutadella and take the detour once past Ferreries.
In both cases, Cala Galdana is very well indicated and it is very difficult to get lost.

By Bus

Cala Galdana is one of the many beaches of Menorca that can be reached by bus (lines 51, 52 and 53).

Once There

Cala Galdana is made for the massive enjoyment of tourists and families, and you can do all the activities you can think of.
You can motor boats can be rented by the hour, kayaks can beYou can rent kayaks to visit the southern beaches, and there are restaurants and bars everywhere.
Presiding over the views is the gigantic Sol Gavilanes hotel.
I do not recommend this beach if you are looking for tranquility and unspoiled landscapes, because Galdana is exploited to the maximum.
Despite this, it is a very good option for families and to visit one day or another, when you don’t feel like walking 1 hour to get to a nice beach.

Cala Galdana in Family

Cala Galdana is a very good option for families with small children for several reasons:

It is very easy to get there by car and park near the beach: if you go with children who can get tired fast you will not have problems.
It is shallow and very wide: children can play in many areas of the shore.
The waves are not very strong: unless there is a strong southerly wind blowing, the waves are gentle thanks to the closed shape of the beach.

The viewpoint of Cala Galdana

If you have come this far, I recommend that you pay a visit to the viewpoint of Galdana.
You will have a view of the whole bay and you will see thousands of bathers enjoying the sunny day (unless you go in winter!) From the Mirador you can take beautiful panoramic photos of the bay.
You can also appreciate the shape of the beach and the mouth of the river of Cala Galdana.

By the way, from Cala Galdana you can start the section 13 or 14 of the Camí de Cavalls.
I personally like stretch 13 better as it takes you to the magnificent Cala Turqueta.
