What to Do in Menorca When It Rains or with Bad Weather (or in Winter)

Whether you are in Menorca in summer and the weather is bad, or if you are in colder seasons(spring, autumn and winter), here you have a good list of 25 plans that you can do when the weather is bad or it rains.

12 Cultural Activities

- Discover the artisanal cheese making in Subaida (12€): Guided tours of this wonderful farm where they make artisanal cheeses (and tastings).
It is a very good plan for the whole family. - Binissuès (10€): Visit from Wednesday to Friday to a traditional house. I am fascinated by the museum of insects and other animal species with more than 8,000 specimens. Depending on the day you can do one or other activities(free cancellation up to 24h before).
You can also make reservations for their restaurant. - Torralba d’en Salord (12€): Visit a Talayotic settlement with a Taula in a very good state of preservation.
- Ciutadella Cathedral:The Cathedral of Santa Maria de Ciutadella is a Catalan Gothic-style building built between the thirteenth and fourteenth century. Visiting it is free, although you have to avoid the hours at which ceremonies are held.
- Can Oliver Palace (5€): You can visit this magnificent house of the Oliver family (of the Maonese bourgeoisie of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries). The house has interior decorations on the ceilings made by Italian painters,and a spectacular imperial staircase. Located in the center of Maó. Free admission from November 1st to April 30th.
- Fort Malborough (3 a 6€): The fort was built between 1720 and 1726. The name comes from Sir John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, a British general of the time. The fort served to protect the entrance to the Mahon harbour. Visiting Phone: (+34) 971 157 800
- SOMNI Equestrian Show (25.5€): This show takes place at Son Martorellet with Menorcan horses. It’s 90 minutes show with music and riders acrobatics.
- Quart TowerA defense tower where Menorcan artisan cheese and other products are sold. It is an ancient possession received by Bernardo Quart from King Alfonso III. This family obtained the privilege of knighthood in the person of John Quart in 1579.
- Llatceret (18€): In 1919 the Lazareto de Maó received the last ship in quarantine. From that moment the island ceased to be used for health purposes and became a holiday spot for children. Guided tours from May to October. A very popular visit during 2018.
- Fornells Tower (2.5€): This English defense tower was built between 1801 and 1802 and was very well preserved and restored in 2000. You can visit Monday to Sunday from 9.30 to 15.40 (Monday free admission – 2019).
- Sant Felip Castle (5€): In June, September and October open Thursday and Sunday, at 10 am and 12:30 pm. (Reservations required). In July and August open Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, at 10 am and 12:30 hours. - Visit to the Fortress of La Mola (15€ or free): A mid-19th century construction ordered by Isabella II in response to British military pressure on Menorca. The island’s strategic position in the Mediterranean made the English interested in mastering it for use against the French in the fight for dominance of the sea routes.
Visit the 30 viewpoints of Menorca

Menorca is full of spectacular viewpoints. Both the natural ones and those in the middle of the city offer beautiful views of the island.
- On not very hot days, or even throughout the year, you can try to reach one of these 30 viewpoints.
Restaurants and Gastronomy

- Guided tour and cheese tasting in Subaida (25€): Guided visits to this wonderful farm where they make artisanal cheeses (and tastings).
It is a very good plan with the family. - Menorcan Cheese and Wine Tasting at Hort de Sant Patrici (15€): no matter if it’s cold, windy or raining out there. Relax with a delicious tasting of menorca cheeses and wines. Can you also visit the winery!

- Binifadet: The visit to the sant Lluis wineries that has been in the business for years in Menorca. You can do tastings and also dinner!

Visits to Villages

- Maó: Don’t miss the longest natural harbor in Europe.
You can walk around it (it will take you quite a while) or see it from the viewpoints that are in some areas of Maó.
You can also do the route of the 6 viewpoints of the port of Maó.
You can have breakfast or lunch in the Jardí de Ses Bruixes. - CiutadellaSes Voltes and the Port are obligatory visits. You can get lost for a while in the alleys of the old town of Ciutadella.
- Alaior: The third population of Menorca with 9,000 inhabitants. You can see the Pati de Sa Lluna. If you go do not forget to visit the village of Torralba d’en Salord.
- Ferreries: visit the church of Sant Bartomeu and walk through its charming streets. They have a free online tour guide.
- Es Mercadal: Es Mercadal is a point of passage for almost all the unspoiled beaches of the North of Menorca. Local commerce, great pastries and lots of charm inside.
Outdoor Activities

If you don’t mind getting wet or a little cold, you can also do outdoor activities alone, since when it rains or when the weather is very bad, people tend to stay indoors.
- Jeep Safari (75€): Throughout the year you can visit areas of the island that you would not be able to reach so easily on your own!
- Favàritx Lighthouse: I love to visit this lighthouse when the weather is bad, even with wind and rain. The scenery is spectacular.
- Líthica: Visits outside the summer season allow you to appreciate a much greener and more humid landscape.
- Son Catlar (16€): The largest surviving Talayotic settlement in the Balearic Islands. The village is surrounded by a large cyclopean wall (built with large blocks of stone without any material binding them) more than 900 meters long. In the village there are 3 well preserved talayots and you can see towers, bastions, foundations and a main entrance door.
