Taximar – Visit Virgin Beaches by Boat Whenever You Want

Última actualización: 20/08/2024

Taximar in Escorxada
Taximar in EscorxadaThe
sea cab service “taximar” is a transport service between beaches that has been operating since 2012.
The taximar picks up passengers on the shore of the beach and transports them to the shore of other beaches normally very inaccessible.
Thanks to this service it is possible to visit very remote beaches such as Escorxada, Fustam or Trebalúger (or Macarella and Turqueta in the departures from Santo Tomás) without having to make long walks or rent a boat for a full day.

The Taximar

The Taximar is a semi-rigid zodiac of about 8 meters in length (length) with capacity for about 10 people plus two crew (skipper and sailor) and has life jackets for all passengers.
It has a 200 hp engine, although all the trips it makes are made at a very slow speed so that you can enjoy the most spectacular places.
When you get on the Taximar you will make an excursion of about 30 minutes in which you will be shown several caves and different coves so you can choose which one you want to stay.
You have to bring everything you need for the day at the beach, but Taximar can lend you an umbrella if you need it. The best thing about Taximar is that you can make one-way or round-trip trips.
That is, if you decide to walk to a beach and it takes you 45 minutes, and when you come back you are too lazy to walk that long, you can get on the Taxiboat when it passes by the beach where you are.
The round trip costs 25€ for adults and 20€ for children under 14 years old.
Since 2016 they no longer offer the possibility to book the whole boat for a single trip at a price of 200€.
If you want to ensure a place on the Taximar it is best to call the day before and even more in advance in high season.

The Routes

The taximar mainly operates two routes.

  1. Main route: it is between Cala Galdana and Santo Tomás, passing by Trebalúger, Fustam and Escorxada.
The main route is the one on days with favorable weather (you can call the day before to know what it will be the next day).
  2. Alternative route: on days with unfavorable weather, it goes from Cala Galdana to Cala Turqueta passing by Macarella and Macarelleta.

Taximar Schedules

The Taximar service starts operating on May 1st (in 2017).
Each departure is assigned a pick-up time after 5 hours.
If you want to return before 5 hours you have to discuss it with the crew to make sure there will be availability.
Departures from Cala Galdana have a fixed schedule:

  1. Departure: 9am – Return: 2pm
  2. Departure: 10am – Return: 3pm
  3. Departure: 11am – Return: 4pm
  4. Departure: 12am – Return: 5pm
  5. Departure: 1pm – Return: 6pm
  6. Departure: 14am – Return: 7pm

The departures from St. Thomas are made by reservation only

Prices

The prices include the round trip.
Sometimes I have seen people asking if they can go back and do one way, and although if the zodiac is not too full they will let you get on, it is best to call ahead to find out if there will be places.
In any case, you can only reserve places for a round trip, for a one way trip “you have to take a gamble”.
