Es Grau Beach
Última actualización: 20/08/2024
It is the largest beach of the Natural Park of the Albufera de Es Grau, with plenty of space for swimming and for kayaking and other sports activities.
With about 590 meters long and almost 35 meters wide, the beach can accommodate hundreds of bathers.
It is a very popular beach during the summer.
In addition to its large size, Es Grau has an advantage over many other beaches in Menorca: it is inside a very closed bay (which protects it from the sea swell) and protected by the Illa den Colom.
Thanks to this, Es Grau is a beach where you can go even on Tramontana days ( although the sea will not be flat).

Once There…
I won’t fool you, I love the beach of Es Grau mainly because it serves me as a
serves as a shuttle for many activities that can be done in the same area:
- Kayak towards Illa den Colom or towards Favàritx
- Sailing in the bay or towards Illa den Colom
- Snorkel in the bay of Es Grau
- Cycle touring along the Camí de Cavalls
- Ornithology in the Natural Park Albufera des Grau
- Hiking along the Camí de Cavalls (or only up to Cala Vidrier)
As you can see, you have many options besides the option of staying on the beach to sunbathe and swim.
As if that were not enough, in the area you have restaurants and bars where you can eat or drink something.
For all these reasons, Es Grau is a beach where you can spend the whole day.
Activities in Es Grau
I have already mentioned that you can do a lot of activities, so now we are going to specify some interesting options.
1. Visit the Tamarells des Sud Beach on Foot
You can walk from the parking lot of Es Grau and do section 2 of the Camí de Cavalls to the lighthouse of Favàritx.
Even if you do not reach the lighthouse, the route passes a few beaches that are worthwhile and that in summer are not crowded.
In about 20-40min (depending on the pace at which you walk) you can reach Tamarells des Sud, a small and very nice beach.
Important: this route is much better on days when there is no north wind.
2. Visit the Illa den Colom by Kayak
At Illa den Colom you have 2 beaches that can only be accessed by sea, so it is not usually crowded:
- Tamarells beach: not to be confused with Tamarells des Sud, nor Tamarells des Nord.
- Arenal den Moro beach: the smallest of the island, and also the most beautiful and crowded.
3. Bike route to Favàritx
Although there are some stretches where you will probably have to get off the bike because of the difficulty of the terrain, if you are in good shape and you usually go mountain biking you will have a great time on this route.
You’ll pass by quite a few unfrequented beaches before arriving at Favàritx:
- Tamarells des Nord
- Tamarells des Sud I
- Tamarells des Sud II
- Rambles Cove
- Mamaes Primes
- Presili
- Turtle
