SauraStand up Paddle Surf (SUP), also known as Paddle Surf or paddle surf, is a very fun water sport that is gaining followers year after year in many places along the coast of Menorca.
SUP is originally from Polynesia and consists of using a surfboard and a paddle to glide through the water while standing on the board.
Paddle surfing strengthens the muscles of the trunk and exercises balance, so it is a very complete sport and relatively easy to practice.
Throughout 2012 and 2013 it has become very popular among all types of practitioners.
It is a sport suitable for all ages!
As if that were not enough, SUP allows you to go standing, kneeling or sitting depending on how tired you are.
The truth is that it is a cheap, ecological and affordable sport for everyone.

Where to SUP

If you go to Menorca and you want to try paddle surfing the best is to go to the south coast which is usually quieter and has more urban beaches.

  • Cala Galdana: Port and beach with easy access to the sea.
  • Cala en Porter: Very closed beach and immediately you find yourself on spectacular cliffs.
  • Son Xoriguer: Urban beach with many services and leisure activities.

On the other hand, if you are looking for spectacular scenery and a much more unspoiled coastline, it is best to head to the north coast of Menorca, although for this you will have to rent a board and carry it in your car.

Paddle Surf boards for rent (with and without instructor)

There are different companies that rent boards and paddle by the hour.
If what you want is a closed activity with monitor the standard price is about 30-35 € for the activity, which usually includes the material and a specialized monitor.
If you want to go on your own with your paddle surf board, the usual price is about 10€ per hour, with some offers of 15€ for 2 hours of rental.
You can rent equipment or hire courses/classes with the following companies:

  • Book Paddle Surf Now (15€ – Free Cancellation up to 48 hours before): For only 15€ you have 1h 30min lesson with instructor and the board and material included.
    Then once you have mastered you can try to do routes on your own.
  • Kayakmenorca: in Maó and Santo Tomás (10€: 1 hour , 15€: 2 hours, 30€: 2 hours with instructor)
  • Diacomplert: in Fornells (35€: 1hour and a half with instructor)
  • Surf & Sail Menorca: in Son Xoriguer (10€: 1 hour, 18€: 2 hours)
  • Menorca by kayak: in Es Grau and Cala en Porter (10€: 1 hour, 18€: 2 hours, excursion: 35€)

Cavalleria Beach

Cavalleria beach is located in the north of Menorca. It is far from the urbanizations and is one of the most beautiful beaches of the island. In summer it gets quite crowded, although you can always park relatively close. It is more than 500 meters long, and has a width that, despite being progressively reduced, is still sufficient.
To get to Cavalleria you only need to go to Es Mercadal by the main road of Menorca, and take the detour to the beaches when you reach the signpost. Access to the beach is on foot, but there is a parking lot located about 500 meters away (see map). The path to the beach is full of rocks, but you can walk without difficulty with any footwear.
