The Camí de Cavalls Route
This is a guide for hikers who want to walk the entire Camí de Cavalls (GR-223) in 7 days.
To be able to walk around the Camí de Cavalls in only 7 days you have to be in good shape, as you have to walk 185km at a pace of 4 km/hour.
The usual route starts in Maó and begins along the North coast of Menorca, which is much harder than the South coast, as it has longer stretches with no possibility of stops.
Accommodation, Hydration and Weather Precautions
The stages marked here are merely indicative, and MenorcaDiferente.com is not responsible for any mishap or accident that hikers may suffer before, during or after their excursions.
- The distances are based on the Camí de Cavalls Official Guide.
Thetimes are calculated without stops, that is to say, you have to add to each day the time you plan to stop to rest, visit beaches, museums, restaurants, etc. - The recommended amounts of water are just that; minimum recommendations.
Everyone should be aware of the amount of water they may need depending on the climate. - I do not recommend anyone to sleep on the beach (although I have done it), since it is not allowed in Menorca and you have to carry more weight in your backpack if you want to do it.
- It is important to avoid summer weather when doing this route, since with the temperatures of July and August, this route increases its difficulty due to the dehydration suffered (more than 30 degrees) and with many stretches without shade.

Thank you for your description.
a couple of questions:
– is it easy to find water during the track?
and… I will be probably by myself and my intention is to sleep in my tent. How many days did you sleep in your tent? Did you have problems?
Thank you
Giulia
Hi Giulia,
In the north it is NOT easy to find water. Specially from Pregonda to Cala en Porter, there are no “water points”.
In the south it’s easier as there are towns and bars in the coast. The longest part without towns in the south is from Galdana to Santo Tomas, and it’s “only” 11km.
I’ve only slept once with tent, which is not legal, and i got fined.
All the other days I’ve done “vivac-vibouac”.
I would avoid the tent if you can, as you will probably get fined.
Where did you camp, how did they find you and how much was the fine?
Hi, I had the tent at Macarelleta (bad idea)
They found us because there are 2 “rangers” checking on some beaches during summer.
I don’t remember the fine, that was like 10 years ago.
Thanks for a really well written and informative description.!! .
